Have you ever left a reading feeling like nothing landed? Like the medium got it wrong? What if the reading was not wrong at all. What if it was just early.
In this episode Jenny Shanks shares three real readings where the message made no sense in the room and everything clicked weeks or months later. A name Spirit repeated that the client had never heard before. A dime that showed up in the most unexpected place the very next day. And a little boy whose grandmother in Spirit knew exactly what kind of school would change his life, five months before his mother was ready to hear it.
This episode will change the way you think about every reading you have ever had, including the ones that felt like they missed.

Welcome to Seriously Dead. I'm Jenny Shanks, a spiritual medium, and I talk to dead people for a living. This podcast is your beyond the grave look at what your loved ones in spirit actually want you to know. And spoiler alert, after 10 years of doing this work, here's the truth. Your spirit family wants you to know they're okay and you are too. How do I know? Because the dead are a lot of things, but one thing they're not is quiet. So get comfortable before you press play because we're getting seriously dead with your loved ones in spirit right now. Welcome back. I'm so honored to have you here again sharing yet another beautiful episode about spirit. But today I want to talk about something that I think trips up a lot of people when it comes to readings. And honestly, something that used to trip me up far too early in my practice. What happens when a message doesn't make sense? Because here's what I know happens: a client sits down, spirit comes through, and I share something so specific, so clear, something that felt very intentional coming through. And the client looks at me and says, I'm sorry, I don't understand any of that. In that moment, there's three ways that we can interpret what just happened. Number one, the reading was completely wrong. Number two, the reading was too early. Or number three, pieces of evidence that Spirit shared with us is not something that we recall about them. So we have to go back to friends or family, and that sometimes can trigger a reminder of exactly who was coming in. After almost 10 years of doing this work, I can tell you with complete confidence it is almost always option two or three. So today I'm sharing three stories that prove exactly why spirit is never wrong. Sometimes spirit is just delivering a message for a future version of that client that's sitting in front of me. And once you understand that, it will change the way you think about every reading you've had, including the ones that felt like they were amiss. The first story starts with a name. During this session, the name Rose kept coming through: clear, consistent, persistent. It was not spirit whispering it, it was spirit planting it right in the middle of the session, like it was valuable information. So I continued to share it. But the client looked at me completely blank and she said, I do not know anyone named Rose. Nobody in my family, nobody close to me. That name means nothing to me. Now, here's the moment that separates a reading that can get dismissed early on from a reading that changes everything. That moment right there when a client cannot connect what just came through, and the easiest thing to do is to move on. But I've learned over the many years of working with spirit to trust what they share with me. So if spirit sends something that the client cannot immediately receive, I don't let that detour me from what spirit's trying to come forward and say. So I chose to stay the course of path with the name Rose. Rose kept coming through, and with Rose came very specific details. So rather than focusing so much on Rose, the name, I decided to just share the evidence that this Rose spirit was sharing with me. It was a woman who was warm and nurturing, someone who was present during this client's childhood, someone who felt like safety, that felt comfortable, someone that they loved to see. But it was really clear that this person didn't live with them. The more that the client thought about it, she said, the only person this reminds me of is my babysitter when I was young. But her name was Mary. So in true fashion, the way that I work with spirit, I often will tell the client, well, don't get stuck on the word rose, but write it down, keep it with you, and maybe at some point it will make sense. After the lady's reading, she reached out to family, asked some questions, and sure enough, her babysitter's name was Mary Rose. But her, as a young child, only ever knew her as Mary. But the full name that this spirit carried her entire life was Mary Rose. Spirit knew her full name. Spirit knew exactly who was coming through and exactly what that woman meant to this client. The client just did not have the information yet to connect the dot. That's not a failed reading. That's a spirit being more specific than the client even knew was possible. The message wasn't wrong. The client just had not found the missing pieces yet. And that is the one thing about messages that they don't always have to land. Sometimes the information is sitting just one conversation away. One question to a family member, one moment of digging into a story that you thought you already knew. So don't dismiss Rose. The second story is one of my favorites because it involves a dime, a dog, and a mother who almost dismissed one of the most specific signs Spirit has ever sent through in one of my readings. A mom came to me and her son in Spirit came through during the reading. And at the end of the session, her son said something very specific. He said, When you see a dime, know it's me. The client stopped me immediately and she said, A dime? Really? Out of everything he could have sent me, everything I've asked him to send me, everything that is connected to him. Him sending me a dime just doesn't even make sense. He would have had so many more creative ways to show up than a dime. And I understood her skepticism completely. Listen, a dime feels small, it feels ordinary. I mean, we know our loved ones send us coins all the time. It feels like the kind of sign that could easily be explained away. But my friends, spirit is not in the business of sending signs that can be easily explained away. Spirit sends a sign that will be undeniably a sign from them when it arrives. The next day after her reading, another one of her sons called her, and he told her something that stopped her cold in her tracks. The son's dog had been playing in the yard and came inside with something in his mouth. Not a stick, not a rock, not something that we would normally find in our dog's mouth after being out in the yard. Instead, it was a dime. A freaking dime. She called her friend who was with her during that reading. Thankfully, the friend months later passed the story on to me. And I, even as a medium, someone who believes in this stuff, could not believe it. This was not a coincidence. That is a son in spirit who knew exactly what was coming in the next day and planted the sign before it arrived so his mother would know without a doubt that is me. I am here and I am watching. While in the moment that message did not make any sense to her, thankfully, spirit made perfect sense of it the next day. And that's the thing. I want every person who has ever left a reading feeling confused or maybe not fully understanding that spirit's not working on your timeline. Spirit is working on the timeline of when the message will land with the most impact, when it will be most undeniably clear that that is them in spirit, and when you need it the most. The third story is one that to this day still warms my heart. And honestly, the one that moved me the most when I heard the update. You have to remember, as a medium, I want you coming to your sessions where I know nothing about you, nothing that's going on in your life. And oftentimes, when we finish your session, I send you on your way and I send your spirits back to you. And I would say a good 90% of clients I never hear from again. However, the pocket of 10% that reached back out with updates simply warmed my heart. A mother came in for a reading, and her mother was in spirit that came through. And one of the things that came through was about her young son. He was a kindergartner, and this message was so very specific. This little boy was struggling in traditional school, not because he wasn't smart, but because the format of traditional school was not built for the way his mind works. I like to think of this as like our love language. He was being asked to receive love in a language that was completely foreign to him. Same thing. He was being asked to learn in a setting of school that just felt out of body. The client heard it. She could see it. She knew on some level what her mother in spirit was talking about. But in that moment, any alternative to traditional school felt completely out of reach and maybe even irresponsible. The kind of thing that you think about, but you don't actually do. So in her gracious energy, she kindly nodded. She took it. And when she left her session, she thanked me for all the messages. Six months later, I got a text from her. They had enrolled her son in a school that is 100% outdoors, no technology, no traditional classroom, just nature, and a space that is completely different in the way he is learning in traditional school. And she said, I know he's gonna thrive. Spirit was not wrong when they shared that message with her. Spirit was just speaking to a version of that mother that didn't exist yet. The version who would eventually be brave enough to make a choice that looked maybe irresponsible to some from the outside, but felt completely right on the inside. Spirit, her biggest cheerleader, her mom and spirit, saw that version of her before she actually saw it. So, what do you do when you're sitting in a reading and something comes through that makes absolutely no sense to you? Here's my advice write it down, hold on to it, and don't dismiss it. Because here's what I know about spirit: a message that comes through with clarity and intention is never random. Spirit doesn't waste time with words. Spirit does not send the name Rose through over and over and over without knowing that name is gonna mean everything once the missing piece is found. Spirit does not tell a mother to watch for a dime without knowing that that dime is actually already on its way. The message that confuses you today is very often the message that changes everything six weeks from now, six months from now, maybe even a year from now. The moment that you finally understand it, you'll look back at this reading and realize spirit was not all that early. Spirit was exactly on time. You just had not caught up yet. And for the people listening who have had a reading that felt wrong, that felt like nothing landed, that left you feeling more confused than when you walked in, I want you to sit with this. Was the reading wrong, or were you just not part of your own story yet? Where the message makes sense because spirit sees the entire story. Spirit's not sitting in the chapter that you're currently in, spirit's reading the whole book. And sometimes a message comes through for a chapter that's not been written yet. That's not a failed reading. That is spirit trusting you enough to plant a seed before that chapter even starts. If you take anything from today's episode, let it be this. A reading that felt wrong was just too early. Spirit's never confused about what to send through, spirit's never guessing, spirit's speaking to the version of you that's coming, the one who will need that message most, even when the version of you is sitting in the chair and cannot quite see it yet. So write down the messages. Hold on to the details that don't make sense yet. Because somewhere between a name that turns out to be Mary Rose and a little boy running barefoot through an outdoor classroom, spirit's already showing you exactly where your story is going.
